Location: Sydney's outer region (further details withheld due to owner's request)
Time: 11:00pm - 1:45am
As we arrived, a dark and daunting late 19th century mansion greeted us with a long white staircase. Surrounded by elaborate arches, the mansion's blackened windows gave us a brief insight of the inhospitable darkness we were about to encounter.
The crew entered into a large open hallway, with our cameras set on night mode and only a handful of small torches partially illuminating our way in. Inside was large and impressive, yet certain areas seemed original and derelict. Large bulky wooden staircases at each end of the building linked the two levels together
There were many large rooms opening from the hallways, each incorporating a fireplace. We began to survey the entire interior to understand the floor plan and to conduct a baseline analysis with the EMI meter. Creaking stairs led us to the second level where we continued to document and measure variances.
As the crew moved back down stairs, Darren and I set up items of interest to encourage interaction, as well as an IC recorder at the staircase in an attempt to capture Electronic Voice Phenomena. There was also a camera aimed across the hallway.
After a thorough sweep, the crew congregated in the living area, situated on the ground floor. This room was chosen because the temperature was relatively warmer than anywhere else in the residence. Two video cameras were set up, a bionic ear to identify the slightest disturbances and a sound activated note taker. No results were produced in this room.
Our next area of interest was the hallway in the lower level. A number of our members submitted questions to encourage paranormal activity. It wasn't until we played back the surveillance video and the sound recorder did we realise that our questions were being acknowledged and subsequently recorded by the surveying equipment on upper level of the building.
Continuing upstairs I noted that the EMI meter in the southern room had spiked (5 - 10 milligauss) where the previous baseline analysis produced no readings. This raised no suspicions to anything unusual. However I found the minute variation odd due to the fact that there was no electricity inside the property. Furthermore, no other electronic devices were within close proximity at the time of this registration. In addition the temperature had suddenly dropped. Some crew members reported feeling a cold 'whisk' brushing past them but no windows were opened.
This time our questions were met with a tap on the window behind us. This interaction did chill some of our members.
These answers seemed to acknowledge the presence of some form of unseen intelligence that, according to our interpretation at the time did not want us in the room, but rather in another room where a second knocking sound was produced.
Two of our members left and we continued in the other room with a séance. It was here where a member of the crew claimed that he was poked in the back.
After the séance, everyone had difficulties obtaining their balance. Some felt the need to sit down in order to recover.
Another attempt to establish communication was conducted in a north facing room where most of us felt an oppressing sensation. Here a few light anomalies were recorded by Handycam. The anomalies were not iridescent in nature, but rather reflecting the IR light back to the camera. There are numerous prosaic explanations to this phenomenon.
After tracking one of these light anomalies, the cameraman claimed that one of these ‘orbs’ permeated through him, causing him great amount of distress and anxiety. That maybe true but it is difficult to ignore the psychological implications such a location can have on an individual.
Just as we began to calm the cameraman, a hideous moan echoed through the hallway. Because this was now becoming a psychological hotbed for fear (which can lead to misinterpretations) we felt that it was a good time to leave.
Without doubt, the experiences and documentations obtained at the Manor was nothing less than impressive.
