The Cemetery

Walking through a cemetery in the early hours of the morning is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Four of our investigators took a deep breath and entered a large old graveyard where even the security guards think twice about walking into. As we walked among the grave stones, we were aiming to find the oldest part of the cemetery. When we did, Darren decided to take a few digital images with flash.

These impressive images were taken by Darren's digital camera. Darren usually makes a thorough inspection of the lens before images are taken. The lens had no fractures or any form of contamination. However, we were able to replicate similar effects under controlled conditions. The initial short-range flash (which contracts the pupils to avoid 'red-eye' effect) had registered the motion of insects while the primary flash spills intense light into the background. The length of the anomaly also depends on shutter speed.

The other strange anomaly is the green mist in the far right hand image below. This effect is most likely due to the release of phosphate gases during the decomposition process and would explain the green halo when exposed to intense light.
